EVERY YEAR I TRY TO RIDE THE BIKE OUT TO TUCSON ARIZONA AND VISIT MY BEST FRIEND, BILL, WHO I MET AT SHAW AFB, SOUTH CAROLINA WHERE I WAS SENT TDY FROM GEORGIA. WE BOTH WERE THEN SHIPPED OVERSEAS TO THAILAND, TO A SUPPORT BASE, DURING THE VIETNAM WAR WINDDOWN. WE BOTH LOVE MOTORCYCLES AND RIDING AND THAT HAS KEPT THIS FRIENDSHIP TOGETHER FOR ALMOST 40 YEARS OR SO. BILL SENT ME SOME PICTURES OF HIS "NEW" BIKE AND I SCANNED THEM AND TOLD HIM I WOULD MAKE A POST ON THE BLOG FOR HIM. SO, WITH HIS PERMISSION I MAKE THIS HIS POST. ALL PICTURES WERE TAKEN BY BILL OR HIS OTHER HALF, GINA. SCROLL DOWN AND CHECK OUT HIS "NEW" BIKE AND REMEMBER: IF YOU WANT TO SEE THE PICTURES BIGGER, JUST CLICK ON THE PICTURE.
THIS IS BILL'S 1952 BSA "GOLDEN FLASH" BOBBER. THE GAS TANK IS FROM AN OLD 1950'S MUSTANG SCOOTER WITH "ROAD ROCKET"ON IT. SINCE I HAD NEVER HEARD OF A MUSTANG SCOOTER, I FIGURED A LOT OF YOU HADN'T EITHER. SO HERE IS TE LINK TO THE MUSTANG M/C CLUB OF AMERICA: http://mmcoa.org
THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE BSA. BILL SAYS THE FRONT BRAKE IS ROUGHLY A 5" DRUM AND THE REAR BRAKE IS ROUGHLY A 7" DRUM. HE ALSO SAYS YOU CAN DRAG YOUR FEET (FLINTSTONE STYLE) AND STOP THE BIKE FASTER THAN IF YOU HIT THE BRAKES
I TOLD BILL I WAS GOING TO USE MY PAINT SHOP AND BLOCK OUT HIS TAG NUMBER BUT HE SAID TO LEAVE IT IN. SO, I DID. BY THE WAY, THE TAILLIGHT IS FROM A 1932 CHEVY. YOU CAN CHECK THIS LINK AND SEE THAT IT IS ACTUALLY THE RIGHT TAILLIGHT: www.1932chevrolet.com/roadster.htm
NOW FOR SOMETHING I DIDN'T KNOW. THE STACKED RIFLES (RED) ON THE TIMING COVER ARE THE SYMBOL OF BSA. BSA STANDS FOR BIRMINGHAM SMALL ARMS CO. (ENGLAND).BSA HAS BEEN MAKING WEAPONS SINCE THE 1800'S AND ROLLED OUT THE FIRST BSA BIKE IN 1909. FOR THE HISTORY OF BSA, SEE THE FOLLOWING LINK: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birmingham_Small_Arms_Company
THIS IS BILL AND HIS YOUNGEST, LANDON ON THE BOBBER. THE REAR END OF THE BOBBER IS CALLED A PLUNGER REAR END AND IT HAS TWO SPRINGS ON TOP OF EACH OTHER. BILL ALSO SAYS THE PISTONS ARE BORED OUT .040 OVER AND IT HAS A BSA "SPITFIRE" CAM. TO SEE THE SPITFIRE CAM CHECK OUT THIS LINK: http://www.srmclassicbikes.com/catalogue/index.php?target=products&product_id=79
ANOTHER PICTURE OF BILL & LANDON. I HAVE TO SAY THAT LANDON, IN MY OPINION LOOKS MORE LIKE GINA THAN BILL. GINA TELLS ME I AM THE ONLY ONE THAT SAYS THAT. (SORRY BILL) BILL TOLD ME THAT HE HAS ENTERED THE BSA IN 3 TUCSON BIKE SHOWS AND HAS TAKEN 4 TROPHIES: 3 FIRST PLACE AND 1 FIRST PLACE FOR FOREIGN CUSTOM. THAT IS ONE GOOD LOOKING BIKE, BILL. YA DONE GOOD.

THIS WILL CONCLUDE THIS POST.
I ENJOYED GETTING THE PICTURES AND DOING THIS POST FOR BILL. I WILL BE RIDING THE HARLEY TO TUCSON, NON-STOP IN THE SPRING 2012 AND IN ADDITION TO THE GOOD TIME WE ALWAYS HAVE WHEN WE GET TOGETHER, I ALSO WANT TO SEE IF I CAN GET THERE QUICKER ON THE HARLEY THAN I DID ON THE VULCAN IN 2008 & 2009. I THINK THAT MAY BE IN THE REALM OF A POSSIBILITY.
SCROLL DOWN FOR MORE RIDES, EVENTS AND RUNS AND REMEMBER TO CLICK ON THE "OLDER POSTS" LINK AT THE BOTTOM OF EACH PAGE FOR MORE OF THE SAME.
CONTINUE TO PRAY FOR ALL OF OUR TROOPS BOTH IN AND OUT OF HARMS WAY. IT JUST MIGHT BE YOUR PRAYER THAT SAVES THE LIFE OF ONE OF OUR TROOPS
UNTIL NEXT POST, YA'LL BE CAREFUL OUT THERE, KEEP THE RUBBER ON THE ROAD, KEEP YOUR HEAD ON A SWIVEL, AND, MOST IMPORTANTLY OF ALL...............................RIDE SAFE & RIDE FREE ..............................JOHN
