A DAY IN THE LIFE..... 8-22-2011

Today, 8-22-2011, was another HOT day here in North Texas. It was the 86th day in a row with temperatures in the triple digits and the third week in a row of 105 degrees +. I turned on the cold water tap for a cool glass of water and the water is warm... And there is no end in site. So, the last few days I have been out and about on the bike or in the truck, at the Harley Davidson Dealership, Jim's Bike Detail Shop, All American Hawg Service and Eddie Hill's Fun Cycles where I bought a new leather vest which I will patch with my PGR patches and whatnot, and wear as my primary PGR vest. Some days I had my camera and some days I didn't. So today, I took the memory card out of the camera and decided I would do a post on the blog with what ever was on it from the past few days. Scroll down and see what was on the card and REMEMBER: IF YOU WANT TO SEE THE PICTURES BIGGER, JUST CLICK ON THE PICTURE.

Here is my current bike, a 2006 Harley Road King. After riding a 2001 Harley Heritage Softail Classic the last two years, I am starting to get use to the feeling and handling of the Road King. One of the main things I have to get use to is, when the Heritage was running (idling), other than the noise from the Vance & Hines Shorts on it, you couldn't tell it was running or feel any vibration or shaking. This was due to a counter balancing kit in the engine. On the other hand, the Road King, with it's rubber mounted engine, when running (idling), shakes and vibrates like an old 74 use to. It smooths right out when it's rolling, but the shaking and vibrating is something I have to get use to again, after all these years .

This was my breakfast yesterday. Something I call the breakfast of Champions. No, it is NOT Wheaties. It's coffee and animal crackers..

This picture was not on my memory card but it was sent to me while I was doing this post. The is my brother, Bob, and his new (to him) Honda VTX1800C he just latched on to. The post after this post is of his VTX1300C that he is wanting to sell and it is in excellent shape just like this bike. Bob is a member of the Great Lakes Road Riders located in Michigan. They just bestowed membership to me because I ride up to visit and then ride all over with Bob and some other friends. And I am from there... Looking Good Bob!
Some days it doesn't pay to go anywhere in public. Check out the BIG dent to my Silverado's right side. Don't you just love hit & runs? Could've been worse though. It could have been my Harley that was parked and hit.

Another view of the damage. Gotta go get an estimate tomorrow afternoon because, like Janice says, it is too nice of a truck to look like a demolition derby vehicle..

Next picture on the card is of my daughter, Amy, who is 6 months pregnant. The baby is due on her birthday, Nov. 18, and Janice has gone berserk buying clothes, toys, furniture, diapers etc. The baby will be a boy and our first grand child and they tell me it is very common for the new grandma's to be, to go nuts getting herself, her daughter and the baby ready for the day he pops out of the oven...

While down at Jim's Bike Detail Shop today, where I went to seek Jim's help in getting some stubborn parts I took off the Road King back onto the Road King, Dearl showed up on his new bike. Dearl is a member of B.A.C.A. (Biker's Against Child Abuse) and I am a member of G.O.C. (Guardians of the Children) and the two groups aren't exactly on speaking terms. But, Dearl and I and a few others talked and since we weren't part of either group when the fall out happened and were friends before joining our respectful groups, we would remain friends and not get into the politics of it.

Dearl was used for a model while I showed Jim how to use the camera.

Here is Dearl trying not to laugh. He maintained a straight face throughout most of it.

Finally, Jim got the hang of it and took our picture.

I went down to Red River Harley Davidson and took a couple presents for the new grandson to be, to get wrapped. It was a pair of black Harley Davidson booties that Janice bought and, during a weak moment, I bought him an infants Black Harley t-shirt that says "Too cool to drool"  it. Here is my favorite salesgirl, Wendi, doing the honors. She even took a moment to smile for a picture or two.

And here is Wendi showing off the finished product. Wendi, you are GOOD,, GIRL!! We will have pictures of the baby in that Harley stuff, and when he gets older, we will show him the pictures of Wendi wrapping his presents up before he was born.. For more info on EVERYTHING that's available at the dealership from infant's clothing to the new Harley's that get me to drooling, check out this link: http://www.redriverharley-davidson.com/. If you are live in the area or just passing thru, stop in and say hi to the great staff they have working there and browse around and check out the new 2012 Harley's. Or pick up a Harley T-shirt or Jacket or whatever you might want or need. They have it all and if they don't have it, they will find out where to get it for you! I love hanging out there and talking to the folks..

Here is another picture of me & Dearl.  I left shortly after I got a picture of Jim & Dearl. It was starting to warm up and already 102 degrees and that vest was getting warm. But once I started rolling out on US82, it wasn't that bad.

And last picture on the card is of Jim and Dearl. Dearl works part time for Jim and is a good friend. I really value both of their friendships. If you are passing thru or live in the area and you need your bike or car or truck,  inspected, (Texas State  Safety Inspection),or the bike  serviced or detailed, give Jim a call at: 940-232-4181 or 940-691-1121 and see what he can do for you. He does outstanding work and 99% of his business is from word of mouth and he does stay very busy which should tell you the kind of work he does and is known for. Three of the top award winning bikes in the bike show at the 2010 TEXAS STATE HOG RALLY were detailed by Jim prior to the competition, and let me tell you, you don't win awards at a BIKE SHOW with a dirty, nasty bike.
